Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, if briefly, when he rotated at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to avoid just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the final bend on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber in third, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
